Many people ask us where we went on this “Road Tip of a Lifetime.” The easy answer is everywhere! We had a few specific dates to be at certain places to meet up with family or friends but our general plan was to somewhat go along red line on the map.
We launched on June 21, 2016 from Tallahassee FL and headed north to Stone Mountain GA for a few days, then on the Chattanooga TN for a week. We spent the July 4th week in the Nashville area and then meandered north towards Michigan to visit cousins and then on to Maine to visit more cousins.
We have lots of friends around the eastern part of the US. We were back in Florida for November, December and January (2017) where we camped in some of Florida’s beautiful state parks and visited many friends and family.
At the end of January 2017, we traveled west along the Gulf coast towards to Texas where we stayed until mid-March. We then meandered north, via Yellowstone National Park, so we were in Montana for a late May crossing into Canada. After more than three weeks of driving through Canada, we arrived in Alaska, the holy grail of road trips. Alaska was our 2017 summer home from mid-June to mid-August.
We took the ferry from Haines Alaska to Prince Rupert British Columbia and then continued driving to Washington state. From there we bounced along the whole west coast of the US visiting with more family and friends. By the fall of 2017, we worked our way through Las Vegas, heading northeast through Colorado and then east across the plains to North Carolina. We wrapped up our big 500 day Road Trip of a Lifetime at Fort Clinch State Park, in Florida. What an adventure we had!!!
We’re now in Florida and working for the Florida State Parks Foundation helping with educational programs and Citizen Support Organizations and visiting many of Florida’s beautiful state parks. Give us a shout if you see us!
